OUR STORY

The oldest sportstore in Andermatt was founded already in the early 1910's. During many decades several generations of the Meyer-family was in the lead of the store and the company advanced to one of the leading sportstores in our region. It is hard to imagine, that back in the day Meyer's sold tobacco and newspapers during the low business-summerseason, but thats also part of the history. 

 

After many ups and downs, thinking of the years of war, it was time for a major change in october of 1995. The first time in the companys history the shop was transferred outside the Meyer family. Urs Portmann took over the company on 01.10.1995 and continues the legacy of the Meyer family together with his wife Ursina. The longterm employees are taken over by him and even today we have Andrea Ehrbar as a part of the team who already knows the business from the Meyer family. The countless and very loyal guests are the core of a successful shop and it is those guests who are in need to continue this story for a long time.

   

With the seasonopening on 02.11.2024 we will start our 30 year jubilee year. We will offer our guests the following:

 

-Every month our guests have the chance to win prices with a total value of over 30'000 sFr. To participate in the contest we will have quizquestions or a game in our shops. On the website or on our socialmedia we will update you on a regular basis.

 

-The seasonopening in november 2025 will be our big birthday party and will last a whole weekend. With music, food and drinks we want to celebrate with our guests and partners.

 

-Instead of little gifts to all our guests we will support local associacions and organizations and therefore support the local community.

01.10.1995 Urs Portmann takes over the Meyer's Sporthaus with its 6 employees.

 

Summer 1999 We introduce our first apprentice.

 

Winter 1999/2000 Introduction of Stöckli skis to our ski selection.

 

15.02.2002 Our shop is robbed out over night. The damage is more than CHF 35'000.-

 

Winter 2002/03 The basement is refurbished.

 

Winter 2003/04 Opening of the Rental Point railwaystation. Introuduction of the first Reichmann automated skiservice machine.

  

Winter 2007/08 We refurbish our rental with the new rentalsoftware Sports Rental.

  

Summer 2008 We take over the former Café Danioth and refurbish it to add more retailarea.

   

September 2012 We take over the retailareo of Sport4you (former Christen Sport). The streetwear and fashionsector is transferred to the new Trend Shop. 

 

October 2020 To fulfill the governmental COVID19-rules we decided to take over the former disco "Dancing Gotthard" and transferred the rental assortment to the new store.

 

September 2021 Purchase of the new Reichmann Slope Master SK skituning machine, the smallest fully automated skituner on the market.

 

October 2024 We start our 30st businessyear.

 

Meanwhile we have up to 22 employees in the winterseason (1200% of workingforce yearround) in four stores (two in summer) and currently we train Alisha Behm (3rd year of apprenticeship) and Jonah Simmen (2nd year of apprenticeship) to be job professionals. 

 

We are very proud on what we were able to achieve with our guests but also with our team since 1995.
